Jesus Saves About $20 On An Oil Change

Jesus Saves of the Day: The owner of an auto shop in Plano, Texas, says he was trying to start a conversation with his customers about his beliefs when he offered a $15 discount on an oil change in exchange for quoting John 3:16.

Potential patrons like Marshall Wei think Kwik Kar branch owner Charlie Whittington’s offer is discriminatory. “Why should I be compelled to quote something I do not feel comfortable to quote?,” says Wei.

But Whittington responded by saying that he isn’t forcing anyone to do anything. “It’s one thing about America,” he said. “You can go and do what you want. I’m not making you do anything and I’m tired of people making me do something.”

Attorney Andy Siegel says Whittington’s discount offer is technically legal, but thinks it may not be the best way to go about accomplishing the goal at hand. “The study of the Bible has many rewards. I’m not sure that God intended a lube discount to be among its many riches,” quipped Siegel.
