Track 61, FDR train car

Track 61 is a long abandoned, once secret train platform under the Waldorf-Astoria hotel in Manhattan that allowed VIPs like President Franklin Roosevelt to enter the hotel secretly. In fact, as Gothamistdiscovered on a recent tour, President Roosevelt’s armored train car is still there.

  1. It amazes me that this tunnel could be constructed so quickly for one President, who served about 12 years, and for him only, only to have the tracks abandoned afterward… It’s supposed to take seven years to construct the still-unfinished 7 Extension to the Javits Center. It’s a distance of 7,000 feet. I want answers!
