Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young and Jones

By god, it’s true. From Tom Jones’ TV variety show circa 1969. Tom seems to be inspiring a certain level of vocal enthusiasm from the other fellas here. Even the untouchably cool Neil Young seems inspired by the odd pairing. Go figure…

  1. I actually thought he sang that really well! Didn’t know he had it in him. Sang it like he’d known it his own life, rather than learning it a rehearsal the day before, so I have to give him credit where credit is due.

    • I agree. His song selection aside, Tom Jones has always had a terrific and powerful voice, and he knows how to sell it. And he certainly sold it here. I love David Crosby’s facial reactions to Jones’ vocals. He seems to be saying, “OMG!” If, in fact, you can say “OMG!” with your face. Or David Crosby’s face.

  2. This is a fantastic find! Say what you will about Jones – that voice of his is amazing. I was way too young to appreciate him back in the day, but I saw him in concert about 7 years ago. While he was clearly poking fun at his own sex-god image I came away thinking HOT DAMN he IS yummy! A little trivia, born in a coal mining town in Wales, he’s dyslexic and had TB as a kid. Hard to believe with lungs like that!
